Every year the girls from the Gemini in Dublin travel to Gran Caneria for Carneval, 10 days of non-stop dressing and partying. It is featured mainly in the Yumbo Centre which is a big shopping centre with lots of gay, tranny and drag bars. Carneval Las Palomas is held either February or March, dates can be checked with the Spanish Tourist Board.

On the 1st Saturday there is usually a major competition 'Transvestkarneval Queen Contest'. Then Thursday night is set aside for the 'Drag Queen of The Year' competition. Both are spectacular with amazing outlets featured. The ideal thing to do is to get a good outside seat at any of the bars. Every other night there is music and dancing in the open air square at the Yumbo. There is a carnival shop in San Fernando where you can get fantastic outfits and party wigs at about half that you'd pay in England or Ireland.

BEST BARS PLAYA DES INGLES

TERRY SHOW is on the top level of the Yumbo Centre which is a must for every tranny. Terry is a tranny herself and makes every tranny especially welcome. Her bar is where the best known Spanish trannies, she-males and drag queens meet every night but weekends are the best. It really gets going around midnight during Carneva,l it closes sometime after 7am, the rest of the year it is open until 4.30am. She is a character who everyone loves, she won the 'Transvestite Carneval Queen competition' in 2000. She has a show in her bar usually Fri, Sat and Sun which features herself, Batusi, Selena and Moby. I have been going to Gran Canaria 3 or 4 times a year for 10 years and would not miss going to Terrys and ending the night or morning there.

CAFE LE BELLE is situated in the Yumbo centre. It has an English speaking drag show on every night which is very good.

KLAMOTTE BAR is downstairs in the Cita shopping centre in the basement run by R.G. Maria. There's a Show on every night featuring beautiful she-males. Sami, Lourdes and stunning TV Gina. Shows start about 10pm, no cover charge. Klamotte is a small intimate bar and definitely tranny friendly.

WESTFALIA is situated on the ground floor of the Cita. You cant miss it. It's quite a big bar with TV and Drag shows on every night from 9pm. TV friendly also.

MARINA BAR is beside the Marietta apartments. Shows on every night with the main star being Noelia a beautiful TS with appearances from Paloma a beautiful TV. Both are Spanish and the show is mainly in Spanish but worth going to see. No cover charge, starts at 9pm til 12.30. Tranny Friendly.

PUERTO RICO

CHEZ FUNNY BOY This is a bar in Puerto Rico that has the best Drag and TV Show you have ever seen. The bar is situated in the Commerical Centrum, 2nd floor, 4th Phase at the end of the shopping centre above the Herdisa supermarket. The show starts every night at 10.30pm for 2 hours, with a different show each night. There is no cover charge and trannies are really made welcome. Costumes are fantastic and the show feautres the best impersonation of Shirely Bassey, Tina Turner, Liza Minelli and many more that I have ever seen. Definitely not to be missed, it has English speaking bar staff and the bar is air conditioned which is great for those girls with wigs.

A lot of the big hotels and apartments have TV and Drag shows on certain nights usually advertised outside.
