I am a Transvestite from Devon in my 30’s and I am a soldier. Make up and hair are very important they completely change the way you look, done well you could walk past your own mum and not be recognized. I have a bit of a thing for PVC as I think its just about the sexiest stuff in the world! My wife is the only person that knows I dress. I think I will only ever fancy real girls but when you are dressed it is nice to be noticed and chatted to by guys I think it just makes me feel that little bit more girly. 

What is your name and what is your background?

My name is Kirsty I am a Transvestite from Devon. I am a soldier in my male life a job that I do enjoy.

Is your name an alter ego? femme name, why did you choose that name?

I picked Kirsty as my name one day when I was joining the Beaumont Society, the form asked for my femme name and I didn’t have one. I knew 2 girls called Kirsty and I had always liked the name so Kirsty was born. I did think about changing it a while ago to something less obviously female so I could use it on the phone as it is sometimes difficult to say “hi it’s Kirsty hear” when surrounded by your mates, but by then so many people knew me as Kirsty it would be a real pain to change and I still really liked it. I am in my 30s now and have dressed as long as I can remember. My first memory was spending hours in the spare room of my parent’s house with a box of my mum’s old clothes when I was a very young child. I just saw it as dressing up at the time but I loved the way girls clothes looked and felt, I spent no time dressing in my dads old clothes at all!

Where do you buy your clothes?

I used to buy all my clothes in charity shops, I used to use stories of fancy dress parties to explain why I wanted to buy girls clothes, but the choice wasn’t up to much and the sizes where pot luck, not to mention that the shop assistants must have thought I went to more party’s than Tara Palmer Tompkinson. I bought a few things from specialist outlets which where good but very pricey. Eventually one day I thought what the heck and went into a high street shop. I know I am a size 16 with size 8 feet so I just went into M&S looked around picked what I wanted and paid for it. I stopped short of asking to try it on as I thought I can always bring it back, but nobody batted an eyelid to my surprise. Now days I don’t think twice about buying a skirt or dress from a shop but E-Bay is an absolute Godsend if you’re a bit shy.

What leads you to choose the styles you wear?

Practicality unfortunately limits some of the styles I wear as you cant have a cleavage revealing top if you have no cleavage and breast forms poking out is not a good look. I am not a full time TV so when I get a chance to get out I am not going to waste it in jeans and a baggy top so its normally very fem and a bit sexy but covers the bits I want covering! I also have a bit of a thing for PVC as I think it’s just about the sexiest stuff in the world.

Do you have one look, or many images?

I think that most people end up with a favourite wig, dress, makeup style etc and feel comfortable in them, I know I have. But I like to try new things that’s how you learn. PVC clad dominatrix or sissy girl in frilly knickers - I will give it a go.

Is make-up and hair important to you and if so how do you achieve your look?

Make up and hair are very important they completely change the way you look, done well you could walk past your own mum and not be recognized which is a great confidence boost if you’re a bit nervous, They also give you a far more feminine appearance without them most people look like a bloke in a frock and that includes some real girls. Done well hair and make up could let you pass in lot of straight venues. I have read a few books on make up and bought the Trading Faces CD to try to learn how to do make up but mostly people will give you really good tips if you just ask.

To what degree do you practice hair removal, and other body feminisation?

I like a lot of sports which often means running around a sports field in shorts and as such it is sometimes a little bit difficult to explain away shaved legs but I have found that by keeping your body hair short using clippers it is easy to disguise with opaque tights or two pairs of normal tights and I still have enough Hair not to look out of place with the lad .

Who knows you dress?

Not the lads! To be honest if like me you are a part time TV then to tell loads of people is asking for trouble. On the other hand if people find out by accident they may find your deceit harder to handle than your dressing and its much nicer if you have somebody close to you that you can confide in. In my case my wife is the only person that knows. 

How often do you dress and if you go out where to?

I normally get to dress one night a week at home, which I use to try out new looks and catch up with my e-mails. To go out I normally travel to London as the scene is so much bigger and I really love Transmission and The WayOut Club. I have also been out in Brighton and Cornwall for individual events.

So what is a man and what is a woman?

Difficult question, whenever you try to categorise people you will always find somebody who doesn’t fit. Even in something as basic as - are you male or female you will find anomalies. I find it best to look at things as shades of grey and not black and white. Except of course if trannys are involved there is no grey just loads of colour but remember black is slimming.

What’s your definition of feminine?

Feminine to me means unable to park the bloody car properly! Only kidding, what I like about being a tranny is that you can switch between masculine and feminine. I am not somebody who wishes they were a girl but there are aspects of a feminine nature that I really love. I find females far more empathic and emotionally supportive and I find these traits come to the fore in me when I am dressed as such I am more interested in people’s problems and trying to help. I know I could never match a real girl though as there is always my masculine side in the background being practical.

Where do you feel you fit on the transgender spectrum CD TV TS?

I am TV.

Are you happy to be called a Tranny?

Tranny is short for Transvestite from the Latin Trans to cross, Vest to dress and Tite to wear tights (I think!). So yes it pretty much covers me, it’s a label and as such people may have preconceptions about what a Tranny is that doesn’t fit me. I don’t find the term offensive but personally I have always thought of myself as a Tom girl the opposite to a Tomboy.

To what degree do you feel gender dysphoric?

Gender dysphoric, there’s a name for everything these days. No I know I am a bloke I just like girly things like clothes, shoes and makeup. Some girls like cars and football nobody calls them gender dysphoric it is just that is more socially acceptable.

To what degree would you consider permanent hair removal, hormones, and surgery?

I would love to not have to shave full stop not just from a TV angle but as for the rest I live my life as a bloke I don’t want to be a girl on a permanent basis.

What individual has inspired you most in relation to your TG inclinations?
Two people really, the first being Jodie Lyn from the Boudoir, (see listing in TG AtoZ directory). She completely changed the way I saw myself as a tranny in one night. To start with I saw myself as a bloke with a shameful secret to hide but because of the acceptance shown to me by Jodie and the other people I met on that first night like Renée and Kim Angel. I finished feeling like a super star. I will always be grateful for that. The second being Eddie Izzard who basically stood up on national telly and said I am a tranny this is what it is all about. For somebody to say this and still have the massive fan base he has goes to prove it is not such a big deal in most people’s minds.

Do you feel that you have any choice in your TG thoughts and actions?

No and this is something I have spent some time reiterating to T girls who have emailed me. Obviously you can stop yourself running up stairs and pulling on a dress in the middle of tea with the Vicar but to suppress your feelings for too long is very bad for you and you need to make time for it.

Have you ever suffered harassment or abuse?

No but on my first night out we walked past some door men who obviously read us and shouted “hello girls” in a high voice but I just thought it was funny and waved back. I think it helps if you are a bit thick skinned about that sort of thing. 

Have you tried to stop?

No I think I will only ever fancy real girls but when you are dressed it is nice to be noticed and chatted to by guys I think it just makes me feel that little bit more girly.  

Have you suffered illness, depression, relationship break ups because of being TG?

No but its easy to see how it could. I think the answer is to be honest with your partner but more importantly with yourself.

If you could relive your life without the TG experience would you?

Difficult one again, I would like to say yes as I do enjoy my girly side and it has helped me be that bit more emotionally supportive to other people, but to be honest being a tranny is a pain and I am not just talking about the shoes. There is the whole secret thing the restrictive nature of it and it is not cheep to have a male and female wardrobe .

Do you feel that releasing your gender gift Has released creativity, that may otherwise have remained repressed?

I have got quite good at makeup and I can dance in heels now, does that count?.

Have you ever performed and if so how did you get into performing and what have you done?

I entered Miss Brighton, never got anywhere though. That was nerve racking enough. I did think about entering The WayOut Club talent contest but as I can’t sing and my dancing is dodgy at best, I was going to do stand up comedy but I am yet to write any decent material. It is a bit of a double edge weapon its nice to be the centre of that much attention but if you’re no good a lot of people have seen it.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone that has just found they are not the only tranny in the world?

Get out! It was the best thing I ever did once you make a few new friends a get over the whole “MY GOD I AM OUT IN PUBLIC IN A DRESS” thing its great.
